Fauna
and flora of the Area
Thanks to its boundaries
as an isolated countryside and the Lac Saint-François, this
wetlands area is particularly remarkable for the riches of its flora
and fauna. From the somewhat 600 different plant species, twenty or
so are rare or endangered, and some are unique on the Quebec territory.
This environment offers food and shelter to various animals, some
of which are also endangered. After the making of an animal census,
we counted: 16 amphibian species, 8 reptilian species, 223 bird species
and 53 different types of mammals.
The Canadian Wildlife Service prepared lists
of birds, animals,
as well as trees
and bushes that are found on this territory. These lists can be
used as information guidelines or to note some of your own observations.
Copies are available at the Area’s reception point or can be
downloaded in PDF format.
A guide of animal
tracks, to be identified in the snow, and a general
presentation of The “Lac St-François” National
Wildlife Area are similarly available in the Internet link.
