The Lac-Saint-Fran\u00e7ois National Wildlife Reserve was established in 1978 by the Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment Canada to protect a unique set of marshes and swamps in Quebec, which is home to a diverse flora and fauna and rare species. In 1993, the MRC du Haut-Saint-Laurent proposed to local residents to create a non-profit organization to introduce the public to the riches of the Lac-Saint-Fran\u00e7ois National Wildlife Reserve.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Association des membres et amis pour la protection de la r\u00e9serve nationale de faune du Lac-Saint-Fran\u00e7ois (AMAPRE) was born from this initiative. Pioneers inspired by the beauty of the area such as Gis\u00e8le L\u00e9tourneau, Jean Albrecht, F\u00e9lix Blackburn, Robert Poupard, and St\u00e9phan Landry founded the organization.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Association was incorporated on April 27, 1993. Since that date, under a contract with the Canadian Wildlife Service, which covers several aspects (monitoring, maintenance, storage, reception, awareness, and scientific activities), we have been responsible for managing activities on the reserve site.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Funding for the Amis de la R\u00e9serve comes in part from an annual grant from the Canadian Wildlife Service, and a combination of grants related to specific projects as well as revenue from our activities.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
