Aboard a rabaska canoe, you can travel back in time to the fur trade era. Perfected by the First Nations, the canoe was a very fast means of transport given the geography of Canada. The word “rabaska” likely comes from a distortion of the Indigenous word “Athapaskaw,” which is common to the languages of the Algonquin and Cree peoples. The Indigenous meaning of this word is “grasses and reeds here and there”. The expression strangely reminds us of the lush scenery of the Lac-Saint-François National Wildlife Reserve.

Today, the rabaska canoe is more of an escape. With its carrying capacity and stability, the rabaska canoe is the ideal vessel for family outings and school groups. Direction is ensured by an interpretive guide, known as the “helmsman,” which makes the task very easy for the other passengers on board.
